COCOS NUCIFERA

Cocos nucifera is the botanical name for the coconut palm, and this cottage is built from it. The walls, the floors, the ceiling: all panelled in timber from mature coconut trees, so the whole room glows honey-warm by lamplight.

Step onto the balcony and Kodaikanal lake is right below you. It's private, quiet and just a little romantic, which is why honeymooners keep asking for it by name.

ROYAL SUITE

Wood-panelled from the bedroom right through to the bathroom, the Royal Suite feels warm the moment you walk in. Cane furniture, a big comfortable bed, and a balcony that looks across the lake to the misty hills.

This is the cottage you'll find on Airbnb, where Sorab has hosted as a Superhost. Guests write about the view more than anything else, and we think they're right.

PINUS SUITE

Pinus is the pine, and this cottage is built entirely from its timber. Pine walls, a pine-panelled bathroom, and that clean, resiny smell on a cold hill morning.

The balcony is generous, and the lake view from it is one of the best on the hill. Bring a book and a blanket. You won't want to come inside.

PRINCE SUITE

Snug, pine-panelled and tucked away, the Prince Suite is the quieter sibling of Pinus. A king-size bed, a warm wooden interior and the hills right outside your window.

It's a lovely pick for a couple or a solo traveller who wants all the calm of the estate at a gentler price.

KING SUITE

Climb the stairs to the King Suite and you're rewarded with the widest view on the estate. From the balcony you can follow Kodaikanal lake from its left end all the way to its right.

Inside it's all wood panelling and a handsome bathroom. On misty mornings the valley vanishes and slowly comes back. Guests tend to return for a second look, and then a third.

A ground-floor cottage with wood-panelled walls, an inviting bathroom and a balcony that opens onto the entire lake.

No stairs to climb, so it suits families with little ones, older parents, or anyone who'd simply rather stroll straight out onto the grass.
